St Margaret’s School for Girls appoints new Head of Junior School

We are delighted to have appointed a new Head of Junior School following the retirement of our long-serving colleague Norma Murray.

Emma Cottingham, originally from England, has had a varied career, spanning over 20 years, that has taken her all over the world. For the last decade, Emma has served in senior leadership team positions, returning to Scotland during the pandemic to live and work near to her family in Aberdeenshire. Since her return she has drawn on her wide-ranging experience to complete the Scottish Into Headship qualification. A pianist and woodwind player, Emma is also a qualified music teacher who combines her passion for music with a love of physical activity and the outdoors.

Upon her appointment Emma wrote:

“On my visits to St Margaret’s I have been so impressed by the junior pupils and staff. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching a class during the interview process and I was overwhelmed by the exceptionally warm, creative and welcoming community feel of the school. It is a privilege to be appointed as Head of Junior School and I look forward to working with pupils, staff and parents as we continue to develop the school’s provision of a first-class all-round education for girls.”

In welcoming Emma Cottingham as the new Head of Junior School, St. Margaret's School for Girls marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in its rich history as the school continues to refine and develop their provision to meet the changing needs of their pupils and the demanding world of the twenty-first century.
