The outdoor space at St Margaret’s has, for decades, offered children a large, open space to play freely and safely in the middle of the city.
Children can play in our green spaces, on the swings, or trim trail under the supervision of staff, fostering independence and creativity, while they enjoy the opportunity to be active during the school day. With our grassy playground, mud kitchen, potted and planted flowers, shrubs, trees, and willow tunnel, children can engage with nature during breaks and lunchtime. Our playground is also used for our very popular holiday and after school clubs.
Nursery children also make use of the outdoor space with loose parts play. The children are encouraged to play using crates, planks of wood, tyres and cardboard boxes supporting active and imaginative free play. The children can become anything they wish from creating and making a bus to constructing their own den.
Teachers can also use our outdoor space for hands-on learning experiences, such as science experiments, gardening projects, and art classes. This allows students to connect with their curriculum away from the classroom.
The playground is also an ideal space to hold our annual PTA Summer Fair with plenty space for a bouncy castle, and fun stands and stalls. A recent addition to the playground, our outdoor classroom, was funded by the PTA and is a welcome addition providing shelter year round.
