St Margaret’s School community invited to join historic walk

This year a special challenge has been set for the St Margaret’s school community. Head teacher, Anna Tomlinson, accompanied by Mrs. Robson from the science department will be walking The St Margaret’s Way, a historic pilgrimage route from the heart of Edinburgh to St Andrews.

They are inviting current families, as well as the wider St Margaret’s community, to join them for one or more stages of the walk. This unique opportunity is open to anyone eager to walk along the only Scottish pilgrimage route named after a woman - Queen Margaret of Scotland.

The Route

Spanning approximately 60 miles, The St Margaret’s Way begins in Edinburgh, crosses into Fife, and follows the scenic coastal path, ending at the historic St Andrew’s Cathedral in St Andrews.

The walk will be divided into six sections:

Edinburgh to South Queensferry: 10.5 miles, Saturday 12 October

South Queensferry to Burntisland: 12 miles, Sunday 13 October

Burntisland to Leven: 14 miles, Saturday 22 March

Leven to Earlsferry: 8 miles, Saturday 3 May

Earlsferry to Crail: 9.6 miles, Sunday 11 May

Crail to St Andrews: 10.5 miles, Sunday 8 June

How to Get Involved

Join the Walk: St Margaret’s families are encouraged to register their interest to walk alongside staff members on either 12th or 13th October. Contact development@st-margaret.uk

Final stage of walk: A special invitation is extended for the final stage of the walk from Crail to St Andrews on 8th June 2025. The school community is encouraged to walk together along the beautiful Fife coastline. A bus will be arranged to transport participants from Aberdeen to Fife and back with further details to follow.

Support through donations: In addition to participating, families and friends are invited to support this initiative by contributing to the school’s Hardship Fund and Bursary Programme. All contributions, regardless of size, are greatly appreciated.

As their journey unfolds the school looks forward to sharing the experiences from this walk and warmly welcomes the opportunity to connect with our community along the way.
